My apologies to Elvis for borrowing from Heartbreak Hotel. May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy is legendary. Roy Orbison, for borrowing from Only the Lonely and Andy Williams for his song of the same name. Too many to mention, like Gene Vincent.

Lonely Street

There is a place called  Lonely Street,

where all the lonely people live.

All their efforts to improve their appeal,

with nothing to show for the love they give.

If you go down to Lonely Street.

You'll find that no one lives there.

The houses will all be empty,

everyone vanished into thin air.

Only the lonely know the street well,

down that street of loneliness and despair,

in their own private, isolated hell,

they live their lives in anguish there.

So if you go down Lonely Street,

never expect to return.

Only friend found on Lonely Street,

is an imagination of yearn.

Unfortunately I am all too familiar with this address. Sometimes I think I have a permanent residence there. I've been told that it's one of the curses for many creatives. Well penned.

I am not a person who feels loneliness very often but I have seen friends eaten up with the pain of that dreadful feeling of loss and singularity. Your poem captures the feel. It reminds me of an Elvis Presley song or maybe Hank Williams and that is high praise. I know Elvis didn't write his greatest anthems to that feeling, but he nailed it with "Heartbreak Hotel" and so many others. However, the king of loneliness has to be Hank with one of my all-time favorites "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" ...makes me want to go listen to whip-o-wills and watch the stars in a purple sky.

Even as someone who likes to be alone, there are times when I do get lonely, and wish to exit "Lonely Street."

No sadder scene then an empty house , and a lonely hunched over figure in a quiet street , braving the cold. I'm wishing you a warm hearth, and a contented heart, dear Ron. Have a great day.

Nice try. There are many lonely people, but they don't all live on lonely street, a place it seems where songs and poems are born. I'll concede one point, however, the only friend found on Lonely Street is "an imagination to yearn", not for the crowd (God forbid) but for a comforting solitude.

I've visited this street a few times in my life, but like we all are able to do, I was able to get past my own personal despair and find my way back to my life that I finally repaired...-e-

There are many who are disenfranchised. The holiday season magnifies loneliness and despair.

So true. There are a lot of lonely people living in the Lonely Street even though they are not heard to have made a sound. Great poem, Ron!

Ron, there seem to be much too many people walking down lonely street lately. One could say epidemic proportions. Everybody is so busy playing with their smartphones wrapped up in their own world. Hard to find a person smiling at you lately. It can only get better or worse.Thank you for reminding us not to get caught on that street...

There are many people who live on "Lonely Street," many of whom we know, but never understand their despair.
