Whether we tempt fate or not, life seems to have surprises for everyone.

Fickle Fate

Touched by the fickle finger of fate,

makes one wonder something ate.

That stomach turning arriving late,

only to just miss disaster’s gate.

Split-second sound of bullet’s wake,

missing by a hair’s breadth earthquake.

Sliding on ice toward the edge,

stopping at the precipice ledge.

A vibrant life is suddenly shaken,

learning what cancer has silently taken.

Lightning never strikes same place twice,

becomes a big lie when it strikes thrice.

Heart attack takes a healthy young man,

While another lives to 100 and 10.

For those who tempt fickle fate,

often wake up to find it's too late.

I EQUATE MY 'FATE' WITH GOD BEING IN TOTAL CHARGE OF MY LIFE. EVERYTHING IS MAPPED OUT, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN THAT HE HASN'T ALLOWED. THUS...

I DON'T KNOW AND I DON'T CARE
I JUST TRY MY BEST BELIEVING GOD'S THERE
WHATEVER'S IN STORE...HE ALREADY KNOWS
MY 'FATE' IS IN...HIS TOTAL CONTROL

THANKS FOR THE SHARE, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+ INSPIRATIONS

Great advice, Ron! Call it "fate" or universal design, somehow everything goes the way it should and we can't avoid those thee ladies!

Love ya!

You've hit fate's nail right on the head, but not too hard. Enjoyed.

You have given me pause for thought, Ron. So far, fate has spared me it would seem although I have had many close calls. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,

Regis. 🍁

I thoroughly enjoy this. Both the truth and the humor.

I don't tempt fate though I do beg for death. But it has to come from without or even within as long as this coward does not attempt it himself & it does not incur any pain to the body...-e-

Turn a corner, cross a street and your life could change forever...As so happened when Mitchell met "The Girl On The Kitty-Corner Stool." As Murphy's Law, the Fickle finger of Fate could goose you at any time.

Good poem, Ron.

Nice job Ron !

Always thought it was the proverbial Middle finger !

Had to Zoom in to discover my error.

Fickle indeed is Mankind’s overblown ego !

What came to mind next was the Shakespearean character
Puck, from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

Many moons ago, on a previous local Baltimore Newspaper,
The News American, each and every day, under the bannerhead
appeared a caricature with his quotation:

“What Fools These Mortals Be!”

I remember Rowan and Martin’s Fickle Finger of Fate quite well, and you certainly have pointed it in the right direction here. This is why we try not to suggest specific days or times our sons come for a visit.
