There are too many questions being raised and not enough suitable answers.

Why?

We live, regurgitate, procreate, party and die,

leave it to philosophers and poets as to why?

Is there intelligent life in the body politic?

It's hard to find among the lofty heretic.

Who is faster, the tortoise or the hare?

Calm tortoise lives long; hare caught in a snare.

Obsessive, compulsive is a way of life.

While we worry our warts into strife.

Cancer we are growing on our great planet,

consuming mass quantities we didn't plan it.

Preferring dirty brown to a green environment,

we dig up the last emerald kingdom for enjoyment.

Our population grows in overdrive,

we are pro-life so that we can thrive.

Consequences of our lack of self-restraint,

we leave up to gods to set itself straight.

But the gods are not coming to save the day,

our nest is disappearing while we pray away.

Why aren't our eyes open to the real plight?

Questions that go unanswered, day and night.

An exacting and prophetic piece of writing. You've managed to make the direst options lyrical and arresting. Such a piece is a note-worthy summation of what far too many on the right ignore in their quest for more of this and more of that. Sanity suggests in your poem that we can't modify our behavior until we have reason. Your concise images of "reason" are more than enough to stop anyone in their tracks... at least those still conscious. A pause to think. Ah, that dirty word, "think." Sad to say, but even sadder to realize the trend is to allow the brain to sleep its way into oblivion.

It’s our thoughts that drive us..
Perhaps a significant change in how
we think is the answer...The pharmaceutical
Industry is driven by money....if a cure for
cancer arrived...would we be told?...too much at stake..?
Is our way of life creating this bad health...
Are we willing to give up our meat and dairy to
save the environment... and our Hearts?
Victims or just unwilling to change our thoughts
and way of life?...anyone up for the challenge?

Diana..

Wow. Strong words. It's hard to keep believing, but I'm not an atheist yet. I still have hope for humanity. Survival of the fittest might trim the fat.

This poem really hits home Ron. We are on a slide and nothing but a miracle will save us. It has been written:Once the door with the broken lock has been opened there is no stopping the flow. Willingness to replace, repair and change is the only way. Where do we start?
Keep reminding us Ron...
