As i teach children with emotional disturbances, i see a miriad of ways they disrupt in order to have some control-real or percieved-of their world

Time and again lives spin off

As if centrifugal force has just let go

In many ways we attempt to hang on

To recover and gain much needed control

So many resort to one form or another

Of ‘bullying’ behaviors, so to speak

By force, “I’m bigger, I can outdo you.”

The weak become prey as the big guy wins

With scary tempers and out of control rage

Yelling, throwing, fits of force

Left alone, not forced to comply

Others, in fear just back away

Or, The preverbal guilt trip

Pack your bags, it’s all your fault

Sit on your pity-pot, Holy martyrs all

Others, feeling badly, do your bidding

Feigning helplessness, another way to control

“I don’t know how,” in tears you cry

I can’t possibly, you need to help me now”

The job gets done, but not by the helpless

So many ways, from infancy on up

We must learn to live this life and maintain control

Better, I feel, to learn and grow instead of butting heads

With the grand old earth and all it offers

You have a tough rode to hoe, but you sound like you care enough to do it! Bless you Karen, for not many will bother. You are a gift and one day you will be rewarded!

Karen, this is sad and left me wanting to do something to help...abused or emotionally distrubed children have a way of trying to get their way and if they don't...watch out! They have to allow people to see they can control others as they have been controlled themselves...that's the only time they feel good. This touches the core of the heart and we so want to reach out & help these children.

It is true that there are and will always be so many ways to use control to get what people want. There is a time for control as long as it is for a purpose and is not used for ulterior motives. If a ship is sinking...one man may step forward with an authoritave voice and even some physical force to save panicked and terror stricken lives who would otherwise die.

Karen,

It takes a special person to show so much love and concern for a fellow human being. One may say, "that's her job" but I know it goes so much deeper than that. My daughter teaches children in much the same situation as you. I see and feel the love/dedication that she has for what she does, often going above and beyond the call of her job. May God Bless You and always give the strength you need to accomplish what's in your heart and a very big part of your life. Peace and Blessings Always My Friend, Paul.

I couldn't do what you do, Karen; it takes a lot of intestinal fortitude to deal with kids with emotional disturbances. God bless you and your kids; you have my utmost respect! We need more people like you in this world! The kids need you, too! Lots of hurting kids out there today. Sad! Sad when little ones have to suffer at the hands of mean, uncaring, apathetic adults who inflicted this upon them in the first place! Heartbreaking!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <
