Spirit

Spirit lies within each of us,

The essence and the core of our being,

Our heart, the will and fortitude,

Which drives us forth to live and learn,

In time, as forces to be reckoned with.

Spirit is the tears which lie behind our eyes,

Shed in empathy for another person,

A stranger we don't even know.

It is spirit that causes one to choose,

Love over anger, forgiveness over grudges,

Though the anger and grudges, seem at first glance,

To be the more logical choices.

Spirit is the force within,

Manifested by hands flung skyward,

An expression of joy, face raised up to the sun,

Unable to be contained.

And spirit is the quiet peace,

Which solitude brings to light.

The ethereal token within a being,

Exemplified by the profound wisdom gleaned,

From a life lived full and learned from.

An enjoyable read. We often associate spirit with those who have passed away (or he excitement at a ball game), but your poem symbolizes the spirit we develop throughout our lives--and perhaps carry with us into eternity.

Wisdom. Insight. Truth. Your spirit shines through in this and brightens my evening. Thank you.

You have engaged well with what you think and speak here, Karen. This has many windows and doors that open the mind, heart and soul. Yours is a brightly lit house which gladdens the long road of the journeyman; within this space can one rest a while and absorb. May all be well with your spirit always: it is who we are. Kate xx

I couldn't agree more, Karen. Spirit is the white eagle soaring above in a blue sky.

There used to be a band called Spirit in the seventies - they had plenty of s-p-i-r-i-t.

Hope your soaring today!
