We Have a Pact

We have a pact, my sister and I,

A promise that won’t be broken.

She must keep on, with treatments to heal,

And I will take care of myself as well.

I fear I have not been good to myself,

I’ve been careless and am not so healthy,

She chastised me when I was there,

She said she needs me, I was deeply touched.

Her words touched me deeply,

As I watched her struggle with treatments,

And was struck by how careless I’ve been,

While I have squandered away my own health,

As she fights to be well and simply to live.

This is so sad- it is sometimes harder on the loved ones of people who suffer with debillitating illnesses, and we who have them, should always remember that loving people like you are right there in the trenches with us, and boy, are you ever a blessing. Blessings to you, Michelle

I love the honesty here, Karen. It is sometimes hard to look after ourselves when our nearest and dearest are struggling. It may be a subliminal feeling of guilt for our own wellness, or perhaps an unconscious desire in some way to enter into their feelings of unwellness or weakness. But your sister has spoken. We are very frank when we have little to lose... or, alternatively, a very great deal! I love the fact that your pact is an agreement to keep each other motivated towards the long-term goal. Together, you'll succeed... xx

I know what you mean Karen. I do not take care of myself as much as I can. Am overweight and am dieting somewhat now, but don't always exercise and take care for my health. Your sister is trying hard and doing the right thing, and glad you support her and are such true sisters and uphold each other. Both of you are marvelous in my eyes too and I consider you friends to me too here on the den.

I am glad your sister made you see the light for it is true, we only truly value our lifes most when we are in danger of losing them and then it may be too late.

Karen,

How true: when my sister was so sick, I didn't care about myself: all I wanted was for her to be well. Excellent reminder.

(((HUGS))) love and prayer, for the both of you, Karla. :(

How true! We learn so much from those loved ones who are ill.
It awakens us to our own mortality! My prayers for you both!

Eileen

It's so true that we often overlook our own health until a loved one becomes ill. I think we often have an "I'm fine" attitude. Nice write, Karen. The love you and your sister share for one another shows.

Oh your heart is so tender Karen and I can understand where you're coming from...but if you want to be strong for that lovely sister, you must be strong too. Please take care of yourself Karen, she needs you, we need you and many, many other who love you, need you. God bless and love yourself for you are worth loving. Love, Bonnie

Your love for each other shines in this serious poem. Too many people go for years without seeing a doctor or having a thorough yearly examination. Take your sister's advice and get a check up immediately.

It seems you both need each other, and that is a marvelous thing.
