Worth It
As a wee little gal in blue jeans and braids,
I had the sweetest kitten, grey with white feet.
She chased strings and jumped in boxes,
Then cuddled up so sweet to keep me warm.
And when a little older, she had a puppy dear,
Little Daisy was the very best friend,
This teenaged girl did have,
Such a loyal pal, she stayed right by my side.
When all grown up she’d a beautiful colt,
His worth to her was priceless,
He pranced and preened then tossed his mane,
As he kicked up his heels in delight.
All along and as she grew, she had her dad as well,
He was strong and brave and taught her well,
To be true to herself, work hard, be kind,
And to treat others with respect and worth.
Now the kitten, the puppy, the colt and dad,
Have all with sadness passed on.
But the walks and the games, the cuddles and laughs,
Were all so worth all those tears that have fallen,
I wouldn’t have wanted to hang out here without them.
How well this shows the strength of your character to withstand the loss of so much love yet the knowledge that you can carry the memories within you to keep them alive ! Beauifully written poem, Karen!
