I remember when puberty was a killer bee...

Naivete and purity grumbled:
maturity and know-how began to explode,
transformations nudged my flesh,
shyness and dislikes started to expose,
a speckled face expressed a frown,
slouching shoulders hid bulbous breasts,
overcome the obtrude with drawn-up knees.
My head exhausted carrying this gloomy load,

cheerless eyes tired of stiff sockets,
fearful to move about and reveal appearances.
Confidence is my challenger:
urged me to surrender to the changes,
to sit back, relax, and enjoy my pubescent years,
thumb my nose at the situation,
stomp the heck out of rampant perplexities,
play a game of ping-pong with my emotions,
come back a winner accepting the inevitable.

A well described period for young people. I love the way your poem describes all the hangups and woes of growing pains, and ends with a marvelous positive outlook.

You've penned it better than any other I've read, ah I remember well the days of youth and feeling that the fun was behind me because the dreaded puberty was at hand! How embarrasing it all was! I thought that I could no longer play the fun games of childhood, that I had to grow up all at once...now so many of the youth of today can't wait until they can show off the results of puberty, and even before there are results to see, not to mention so many of the parents that push their children into growing up so quickly. I tried to instill wihtin my children as I do my students as well, to be patient and enjoy being a kid, I tell them that they are only a kid once...but an adult for the rest of their life! Some listen some do not! I recall my daughter crying because she was afraid, I asked her why and she replied that she didn't want to grow up! Ah, the days of youth! Enjoyed this well written poem very much my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Nice slant on how it is for a young girls feelings are on growing up. Have not seen this explored before but I'm sure it will ring a bell with many a gal. Funny in my youth some gals well indowed flaunted it and others were shy and reserved. Each grows into womanhood in their own way.

An excellent remembrance dear Barbara. You have captured so much here in so few words. My dear wife Michele struggled exactly the same way - slouching forward to hide the wares so as not to provoke the herd of wild horses in the boys. Delightfully written. Blessings ...
Richard
