Living in the past is much too common of a mistake for many of us.
But, I can tell you have come to enjoy the present and I encourage you to live life to the fullest daily.

The past should teach us Barbara how bright the future can be! Our blessings come from the present and every moment is of the utmost importance, and life is best experience one second, minute, and hour at a time. The greatest moment at the present is this, which is the only one we have. Thank you for your kindless, poetry, insight, and love for life. Peace!!!
Oh, Barbara...many times I think the same thing...then start singing old songs, or dance with my kitties(more like slow turning :o), or whistle-talk to my outside birds. Remembrances of past prompts me to enjoy life now all the more. I so enjoyed your poem...

I echo Morning Star's comments, as well as hoping things turn out for the best. I have no choice but to live for today, because it is all any of us have. But the memories, some sweet, most bitter, will never be gone from our minds, of the things we did as children, or even what was forced on us.
