Grandma, An Old-Fashioned Woman

This was written for a friend's Grandma, from what she told me about her.

       Grandma, An Old-Fashioned Woman

         African Violets on her window-sills --
                            The loaves of bread she'd bake;
          Jars of fruits and vegetables --
                            the luscious pies she'd make;
          Her kitchen was the planning room
                             for the love-gifts she'd prepare;
          Cooking,  canning,  baking,
                             There was always plenty to share.

          Many a telephone call would come,
                             a sweet voice we would hear,
          Saying, "I did my baking today;
                              come and get some, Dear!"
          And the very best times of any year
                              were the holiday dinners she held,
          With a turkey and all the fixings,
                               the best that you ever smelled!

             The family all gathered at table;
                                 a banquet was what they found,
             And Grandma was in her glory
                                  passing the dishes around!
             Yes, Grandma liked the old ways;
                                 hard work was her way of living.
              The love that she had for others
                                was shown by her constant giving.

               She liked the old way of dressing;
                                  housedress and apron she'd wear.
                When she worked in her little garden,
                                   a sunbonnet covered her hair.
                 Grandma liked the old-time religion,
                                   where Jesus was Savior and Lord,
                 and many an evening hour found
                                   her studying His Holy Word.

                  Grandma was an old-fashioned woman;
                                    reflecting God's values and creed;
                  With old-fashioned fervor, her life was aglow -
                                   and God's love illumined each deed!

Very nice, Connie. I'm glad that I read this one 1st. You must have known my Gram, as you described her perfectly. The only thing that you didn't mention was her baked beans. Yummy!!

What a wonderful memory and a beautiful tribute, my grandmother was an old time woman as well. She too wore her apron daily, where often you would find her handkerchief pinned to it or in the pocket, sometimes beneath her watch band, she too believed in the old time religion, and taught us valuable lessons, worked many long hours in the garden with her bonnet upon her head. She loved to sew and piece quilts, she was taught me how to sew and about loving God, and servin Him with a whole heart! My Mamaw was my second mother! A dear Saint gone home!
Blessings,

Masterfully done, Connie-Girl!! I'm sure you did justice to this dear old saint. This reminded me of my own Grandma Hattie..

Though our attire may be different, our hearts for Jesus are still the same...I hope our grandchildren remember us this way, too :)

Love - and happy Mother's day to YOU, Sister! Rhonda

A truly wonderful tribute to her, and this truly reminded me of my own extremely loving, extremely old-fashioned Grandma, who I still miss very much today.

Connie, You drew a vivid picture of Grandma, sweet and charming. Just the Grandma I would have liked to have. I never knew either of mine, you know. If I did, she would be very much like the one you wrote about. Enjoyed!

God Bless
Much love always
