I can't tell you how many times Bill and I were told "You can't live on love," but like the couple in this 4th verse, we set out to prove that we could!

Poem Artwork

When you were still a youngster, and Valentine's Day drew near,
Did you hope, in your love-struck heart, your true love would appear?
Did movie stars and chocolate bars, all swirling in your mind,
Bring fantasies and daydreams of the most romantic kind?

When I am 20, a Doctor will be the man for me ~
Or just perhaps, a TV star, my sweetheart then will be
Tall and handsome will be my beau, he'll worship at my feet
He'll buy me chocolate candy to tell me I am sweet

He'll bring me long-stemmed roses and drive a limousine
When he takes me out to dinner, I'll feel just like a queen!
We'll text and chat and telephone all throughout the day,
And how we'll miss each other when one of us is away!

But just in case I fall in love with a man who has no money,
I won't regret the day we met, when his words were sweet as honey
He'll be my shining hero and I'll be his turtle-dove
We'll be the happy couple who prove . . . . . You Can Live on Love!

In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives.
Treat your wife with understanding as you live together.  She may be weaker than you are,
but she is your equal partner in God's gift of new life . . . . . I Peter 3:7 NLT

How nice to hear this love story of reality. You always write such meaningful poetry, and it rhymes perfectly. I can say, too, that your pieces are dependably rhythmical. Let’s face it: you are an all-around nice individual. I can just tell. I’m sure you’ve been a good wife for Bill over these many years. Continue livin’ on love.

Your poem reminded me of two things. I recall going to my sweetheart's birthday with all of her girlfriends about 11 or 12 and discovering that the primary love the girls had was Rock Hudson. Boy, were they in for a surprise!

And, my mother and father. He was 21, just out of CCC camps because he quit school in his senior year and couldn't get a job. Now, in 1941, unable to join the Army for medical reasons, he was doing odd jobs like setting pins at night to pay for his new car that he couldn't afford to pay the payments on, a 39 Buick sedan. She was 17 and graduated from high school with the knowledge that she wouldn't go to college because she was already pregnant with twins (my brother and I).

So, they rented a shack behind a farmer's barn. Dad sold the Buick and bought older used cars. Mom was the monetary genius juggling bills for my spendthrift father, and they were able to retire when he was 62 and she was 57.

A very nice poetic song about Valentine Day in the eyes of youth.
However, I did not live Valentines Day as a youngster.
But I am living it now!
I am married to my Valentine Princess and do we have fun!
Wow!
I enjoy spoiling my princess and buying her surprises too.
It's like life is younger now that I am married and she is pushing
Sixty-two.

"In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives.

The Heart's Way by Rebecca McKeehan

Love is universal and not limited to the most perfect among us. In this collection of romantic short stories and poetry, love comes to those who are decidedly imperfect, who possess very real human flaws, scars, and challenges. Awaiting us as we are.
