It's been so darn cold this winter that I've placed several feeders on the porch.

The wrens, chickadees
and finches
are delighted with
the ring of suet and seeds
Marie bought at the upscale
birding store way
west on Rt. 22.

I’ll have to get another
when this runs out,
make an avian offering,
create daily
happening beauty
of wing flashes,
and--
I am informed--
a health hazard.

Old, having lost
more than a few
of my nine lives,
I’ll take
my chances
with the wrens.

Blessed are those who help our winged friends, especially in the dead of winter.

Thanks for this, Juliet. I miss the birds come winter, though
today we had a parade of ducks through the yard. I used to have
a "pet" cardinal who would remind me every afternoon to put out
the feed. -gene.

Your 'Bird Watching' reminds me of the wild turkeys that invade our yard from time to time or that spring years ago when I spread wild flower seed across the slope to add some color and the birds came in flocks to eat. They must have missed a few becaue there were some flowers later. Isn't it amazing the power of poetry and the memories it brings to the surface? That's the beauty of it all. Thanks.

Yes the calming affect of the birds seems to soothe the soul and if we take the time to watch they warm our hearts.

Reminds me of my Ohio girlhood; spent hours watching our feathered friends. Well done, Juliet!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D

What hazard, to be entertained by God's winged angels? Their voices, lifted in praise ... beautifully imaged in verse, Juliet, well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Love it, Juliet. Birds are neat creatures. Last summer, I was reading on my deck and I finally got a chickadee to land on my finger. Thanks for sharing. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Epiphany by Gary Stephens

“We’re going to use nine megaton warheads in space and we’re not sure they’re large enough to be effective. Why would you even consider using kiloton-range surface-to-air warheads as back-up?” The answer was succinct. “Because they’re all we have.”
