Painless Sting Of Death

This prison they call life
Has taught me many things
Pain of suffering is lasting
Death has no permanent stings

My mind is destroyed
Beyond reasonable repair
This unnatural pain
No longer can I bear

In mortal life
I’ve died so many times before
Each day a new catastrophe
What is death to just one more?

Lust for death grows stronger
Worlds grow rapidly darker
Depth of darkness so unending
Hunger grows rapidly wickeder

Sharper than a blade
Or bullet through the heart
Slaughtered by a quick fierce pain
My body and soul shall rapidly part

My steaming blood will grow cold
Seeping from these wounds
My spirit will escape this flesh
As notes leaving a sad tune

Pleasure in my after-life
Pain in death shall surely flee
Heart shall beat no more
Heavy soul is now set free

Painless sting of death; a powerful grip
Passing will I see a refreshing light?
See heavenly creatures dance about?
Or will hell hold me ghastly tight?

Run to the drug you choose
Let it console you tonight
Remember me as discarded rubbish
For in painless death I give up the fight

After arresting a couple that was hooked on drugs, I overheard one say to the other, "Ya Know, sometimes it is just easier to do it than fight."
It left an impression on me because it was a sincere statement and I suddenly realized the hold that drugs have on some people. Some beg to die so the pain will be gone.
This war we must continue to fight!
