The country life was peaceful. It's too bad every one did not have an equal opportunity for an education.

..

Ma, why can't I go to school?

'cause we needs to eat.

The other chillin gone up the  road

ain't nobody but me and you na.

Maybe some day da come back home

and den you can git some learning boy.

Meantime, go down to the spring and tote

us some water back 'fo night fall.

In the morning, milk the cows,

slop the hogs and plow the back fields.

I'll git the seeding done fo' the sun git

too hot.  Now say yo' prayers and

go to bed.  God got ya.

I Was Just a Radioman by Pamela Ackerson

This is not a drill. The attack on Pearl. They were the ghost planes of the night, deadly, illusive, sharp-clawed Black Cats. The Memoirs of ARM H.P. Lawrence, a Pearl Harbor survivor, Black Cat, and decorated war veteran.

Black Ash & Green (Sessions with my Therapist) by Pearl Barley C M Donaldson

She never felt safe at home as a young girl, and didn't understand why when she finally escaped she wasn't safe in the big wide world either ...effectively jumping out of the frying pan into the fire!
