I wrote this piece once when I found myself caught up in a cycle of activity that ultimately I deemed to be ‘busyness’. You know the cycle—you’re doing things to be ‘active’. It’s very common in the dating world, because you don’t want to look life you have no life! It’s not for me though—I prefer to have real activities, that mean something to me. I ultimately decided that being busy, just for the sake of having something to do was for the birds!
Busyness, a clever fellow
Found his way to peaceful meadow
Where he succeeded, in guise of fun
To gain the trust of innocent ones.
They thought at first
He was a sight!
His flashing brilliance,
Full of excite
In time they found
That wear and tear
Wrecked their bodies
Impaired their lair
Busy you see
When accepted for fun
Can transform to
A vicious one
Always demanding
More to do
Rejecting counsel
From those that choose
To pursue its lifestyle
Such a curse!
Unending cycles
Of acts to nurse...
'Til finally those
Exhausted and blue
Sent Busy packing...
And enjoyed the view!
Wonderful write and yes I know exactly what you are talking about I have been there myself a time or two, and yes it always catches up to you when you find out you are just doing things for the sake of filling the hours.
