Fresh Unto Dawn
The day has brought its share of problems
That weigh heavily upon your weary head
Car problems, gas prices, concern for the children
Every possible worry that the mind can dread
No sleep tonight you decide in advance
As you lay your head on your pillow so fine
Your troubled thoughts like a runaway train
Making your body passenger to your wakeful mind.
Lord, give me one night of blissful sleep
You pray while you fitfully roll, toss and turn
Too tense with worries to even try to relax
Prayers suffused with your woes, gloom and concern.
An old memory seeps through the debris of thoughts
From a wonderful sermon heard many years ago
By Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, a truly great man
Went something like: Reap the seeds that ye shall sow.
Generating excellent advice to those with insomnia
Suggesting a way to cleanse your mind for sure
If you exercise his suggestion, put it to work
Blessed sleep will flow like a stream’s peaceful lure.
Try this activity before you lie upon your bed at night
Pen a list of all your worries, concerns, and distress
Then ball up the hateful list, throw it in the trash
Give yourself over to sleep and time will heal the rest .
Handle your problems like garbage and trash
Take it out of your head every night
Then you’ll be fresh to start each new day
With clarity of purpose to set those problems right.
