The Pain of Defeat
For a while, I thought she might win;
Her perseverance and dedication to her campaign
Was unending, a woman not willing to give in
Until all was said and done—now comes the pain.
Despair and depression will soon ensue
She’ll want to crawl into her corner and weep
But she has shown extraordinary strength
Hiding emotions too private she must secretly keep.
One must wonder how she continues to stand tall
How she faces the whole world with pride
The opinions, comments and labels, all must hurt
But she treats it with the dignity of one who’s tried.
No, she won’t be the first woman president
Governing the country wasn’t her fate to be
But she can proudly say she’s traveled far
And will certainly go down in history.
