Heartfelt. The memories of the old home place, the food a cooking. It is beautiful memories as such that paint perfection in our souls.
A peaceful perfection.

Excellent imagery. I really enjoyed this poem, Joyce, because it takes me back to my youthful beginnings when I lived on the farm with my parents--those biscuits were yummy, too. I am just becoming accquainted with AuthorsDen and all the great material to read on here. Thanks for inviting me to visit your site.

Hmmmmm I could smell the food cooking and hear the change rattling. And the clamor to get off the school. Nice nice images. I liked the mix of rhymed and unrhymed

Joyce, I love wandering around in the mountains with you. Sometimes I am reminded of the Loretta Lynn story. I know your heart by the word from your pen. I can't thank you enough Joyce for the tracks of your past and present.

I can almost see each light in the house go on in the erly morn and smell the coffee. I spend as much time as I can in the mountains of Western North Carolina, Joyce...whith the rhododendron and laurel, waterfalls and mosses...that incredible air. certainly a more current setting that what must be a scene from your childhood, but the sense of family lives there still. Much enjoyed Joyce.

Joyce, you have brought back many precious memories through this outstanding write. I know the smell of that "damp mountain soil" and I like that you sparked my olfactory memory so effectively. There is no place like home! Thank you for sharing this poetic morning with us. I think the buttermilk biscuits are ready!

The smell of damp mountain soil,
what a delightful pleasure I did and still take.
More appealing than a fresh baked cake…

I agree, Joyce; memories can be a wonderful thing, and dawn truly is my favorite time of day, too.

I wake up early and so I can relate, and you sure opened up my apetite. Happy memories though times come when we wish we're back there. Victor

This is superb poetry, rich with sensory experience. It is as if you have allowed your readers an insight into your world and those things that touch your heart. What incredible memories. I felt the sadness with you in the last lines.

Dear Heart ...

You should be the spokeswoman for Americana. The smells, the sensations, the hope, the memories, permeate your work with life and hope.
