Joyce,

'Food in the Mountains' is another of your [our!] American Treasures from your pen! The abundance of your labor and the warmth and plenitude of your family's table and love, leaps off the page!

How I pray you start a magazine, Gifted Sister!

Food in the mountains brought many memories. We had a garden when I was a child and enjoyed home grown veggies, jams and jellies. Whan I grew up and started having children I continued to have a garden, canned and froze many vegtables. Apple butter was a great treat, as was apple sauce. Thank you for sharing the bounties of your childhood days with us.......M

Ah, the memories are refreshing.
Oh so true about those fast food restaurants.
Heee, hee had to grow up to go to one pretty much.
Would be unheard of to even eat a cookie out of a bag...tisk, tisk one couldn't do that. Oh so sweet memories~thank you Joyce~beautiful.

Peace, love, and joy to you at this Christmas time my dear~best of care to you,

Although the ingredients may be a different, this is how I was raised too...we ate seafood and fish and grew our own vegetables. We also grew oranges. It wasn't fancy food but it was food filled with love...couldn't ask for better..))

My heritage is such a combination of the North and the South, Joyce, and there are even a few Holdovers from Britain. I might have confounded your students. It's so special to savour all those food comforts that remain a part of our heritage and that which we will pass oon to our children and theirs. Your work is always a treasure and your memories catalogue the Mountain spirit.
Love,
Taylor

Joyce this is fabulous! This delicious poem is a cornucopia of all the foods I love -good wholesome country eating at its finest! You now have my salivary glands working overtime. You have done an outstanding job here and I'm glad I stopped by for a bite!

I love how you write, Joyce -- your work has the resonance of a loving reality, always. I could not only taste these delicasies through your words, I could smell everything as it was cooking. Many of the things you've written about here, I enjoyed as a child, some even now -- Mama used to make us the most delicious soup beans, and always they were cooked in with the ham broth, and we would have it over the corn bread ... how I miss her. Thank you, Joyce. I would hate it if you ever stopped writing.
Much love,
CJ

It reminded me of my own memories of my favorite foods growing up, Pasta Simmering on the stove, with the smell of Spaghetti Sauce filling the house and fresh baked biscotti's at Christmas time what a treat
God Bless
