In his long white coat,
stethoscope round his neck,
a doctor visits the hospital wards.
Nonstop.
There are too many illnesses here.
He says,he knows and he smiles.
After treating many illnesses
for many years,
he has it enough,
he gets ill himself.
He opens his medical book
to look up for his problem,
all the medical instruments he uses
to find the right diagnosis,
but all in vain.
So,he gives up!
He begins a journey seeking a cure,
from one end of the globe to the other.
In his featherclad garment,
clanking the bells and blowing into the air,
a shaman shakes the spirits.
He asks for odd sacrifices from time to time.
He throws the ashes and spits out the bad spirit,
from the frail and dying body of some sick men.
From endless shaking,banging his drum,and
blowing into too much ashes,
he suffers a severe headache.
He calls upon as many spirits as possible
to stop his head from aching,
he recieves no reliable responses,
all his mantras finishes.
So,he gives up!
He begins a journey seeking a cure,
Opening his eyes and looking all around.
One rainy day,by chance,
the doctor and the shaman meets.
The doctor gives the shaman a few paracetamols.
The shaman spits out some bad spirits off the doctor's body.
Now,both of them are doing fine.
Now that is what I call a fair exchange and a very good example of how there are many ways to heal and medicine is not the only way.Excellent Roshan! ET
"Doctor, heal thyself" is not a very good practice. It took the reassurance from each other to cure both the doctor and shaman.
Ofen, that is what we need most: reassurance from one another to heal.
Wonderful, compassionate poem, Roshan...and an even better message!
