A special lighthouse that carries special meaning with it.......

Poem Artwork

                            Montauk..............

In a setting of boulders, rocks and sea,
a majestic lighthouse stands bold and tall.
Commissioned by a president so long ago,
his name George Washington, heard the call.

A thought, a dream, a need to be,
beginning in June, ending in November.
Still standing proudly after so many years,
1795 a year in history to always remember.

Surrounding her beauty in an afternoon breeze,
the grass and trees so plush and green.
Flag flying high, noting winds direction,
the serenity of it all in need to be seen.

Her beacon shone bright April, 1797,
seas were rough, foam washing on shore.
A mist in the air, salt all around,
a need for her bright beacon was never more.

Rain falling hard, fog on the land,
ships at sea would have run aground.
Her wailing cry, her light burning bright,
kept many a ship safe and sound.

In winter it snows, at times can be blinding,
winds are deafening, sometimes a white out.
Ships, planes, she guides them all in,
beacon still bright, no worry or doubt.

Many a storm she has weathered well,
being protected with tender loving care.
             Countless campaigns over the years,
kept her standing so she will always be there.

Beautifully written! It is indeed a special lighthouse. My husband and I were there in Summer 2008 and climbed up the winding staircase to behold the magical view.

Wow Karen I love this beautiful poetic ode
And the picture is stunning It help me
Truly to envision the ocean waves and hear the
Beautiful melody of it's roar
I have not seen a light house since I was
About 12 yrs old it brought back some sad memories
But I love this poetic view of thoughts!!
