                              Slippery slope..........

       Lives in disarray, water everywhere,
what do we do, how do we cope.
Country falling apart, decay all around.
it seems we are living on a slippery slope.

Plastic overcoat to cover and disguise,
what once was, but no longer gives.
Is there a way to return to that place,
where love, respect and honor lives.

In a land that held so much promise,
so many good people are floundering.
Having lost sight and perhaps their way,
a need now for church bells sounding.

Our villages, towns, cities all cry,
why is this happening how can this be.
Once a great nation full of hopes and dreams,
how can this happen in the land of the "free".

Many are trying so hard to repair,
a coat of new paint, hard cover of varnish.
What lies underneath, cold, hard, truths,
all to keep you from seeing the tarnish.

Can this direction, this course we are on,
be guided towards a more positive way.
      Praying, hoping, wishing and trying,
out of ideas, do not know what to say.

God, please have mercy, step in again,
instill your wisdom, love and grace.
People will listen, they are willing to learn,
once again to make this a wonderful place.

It would be wonderful to see people in America once more embracing activities that bond us - like block parties, town socials, and local charity. These are the type of things that can help us belong, so we become WE and not ME. Those feelings can spread quickly. Hugs,
Sheila

Karen Bless you! can you enlarge this beautiful write and hang a big banner over the white house please! Ed said it < it's plain old selfishness, When the wagon trains rolled over the prairies to make this country everyone had to co-operate to get to where they were going, it was a different kind of self reliance, but I am afraid the guy with hired guns has won out in America, and it has become an accepted norm, to hell with the little Guy,and the sherif enforcing an aging moral code is one of the hired guns. My God when I learned about Amerika it was the Goal of every dreamin mortal, you can go back as far as you wanted, I could go on, but you said it all!

Great write and photo as well, a powerful combination! A write and plea from the heart...things that are going on around our world are a bit scary...droughts in some areas, while flooding in others, all of the destruction from the tornadoes...it's hailed twice here in the past couple of weeks...seems as if nature is all mixed up...surely God will intervene and extend His hand of mercy...a touching write my friend, very powerful!
Blessings,

Very good write Karen and very true. I wish desperately that we could all appreciate this beautiful world we live in but unfortunately some don't care. it breaks my heart to see desolation and poverty in affluent countries such as America and my country, England. It shouldn't be but it is. All we can do is do our little bit and keep writing about it! Peace and love to you, Theresa.

Karen,

On a slippery slope to hell....the whole nation is going down. Apathy and chaos rule the world; no one gives a damn anymore. The rich get richer, the poor get screwed again and again. Prices keep going up, paychecks getting smaller and smaller. Look at those poor folks in Haltom City and Gainsville, living in a flood plain because they can't afford to move anywhere else. They get it again...Haltom City just had tornadoes back in April, and now, the floods! When's it all going to get better? When is someone going to give a damn? Sorry, the news about the flooding hit me hard...I can't imagine losing everything. You've penned an eye opener, thought provoking write; well done; hope you're safe.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Country falling apart, decay all around.
it seems we are living on a slippery slope.

Sadly, I believe this is very true. And my eyes were really opened down in New Orleans. It's been almost two years since that tragedy, and far too many are still trying to rebuild their lives, yet we as a nation seem unable or unwilling to help them get the job done. I think we've become a very selfish society, and that to me, is very sad.

This country has always been a political one. In these days, the politicians have created a sink hole that has no latter. Dems, Repub., Independents? Just labels. All are for money, money and mo' money. They do not care a rats hiney about this land or her people. Some are made to follow the lines of the law, millions of others are allowed to break it. For? Money, Votes, face time on tv. This is not God's doing or undoing. It's man's refusal to utilize what God gave freely and strongly, free will to make the right choices. An inner moral pull to help and to ask for help without pride. This country has been taken advantage of by our own but mostly other countries. It's up to us to ban together and put a stop to it, but That will never happen. Nice poem Karen, got the passions in me flowing this morning!

Compassion & benevolence souls still to be found - Most people on this site would never allow sink-swim or drown - But an overcrowded planet has created this greed - For themselves they care only & witness those who would bleed - So gather the willing who have-not the fears - Possibilities are endless & your write helps though read with tears - {beautiful} Ted

Splendid poem with compassionate sentiments. Your last verse, holds the key!. Not enough people want to learn or pray. If they did we wouldn't be in this condition. Humanity spends less time in prayer than in any other activity, yet they ask for so much!In most cases God only gets their attention when they want something.Sad, but true...
