Postponed Ph.D

I rub my eyes, I yawn, I stretch
I situp before getting out of bed
I turn off the alarm before it goes off
so I can have a few moments to myself

I search for my robe, find one house-shoe
stagger to the steps very quiet

I go to the kitchen and there they are
much to my delight

Breakfast is served, oh what a treat
I forgot it was Mother's Day
burnt toast ala-black, the coffee was yuck
but still the thought was very sweet

My kids are super
with or without the bloopers
I'm one lucky trooper indeed

I don't regret changing my plans
and postponing my Ph.D

The right time will come
when my kids are half-grown
the future holds time for just me

Until then I'm content
with Lois and Clark Kent
you see my life is really complete
I don't need a degree to prove to me
how successful this mom can be...

Dedicated to all the wonderful Mothers in the world who had to put their own lives on hold until their children were old enough for them to once again move forward with their careers.

There are an awful lot of things you don't learn in college, aren't there? Raising a child tells you more in an hour! What a lovely tribute you have written. Hope you paste it in a scrapbook for each of your children. Think how they will treasure it when they are grown!

"Postponed Ph.D"... A WRITING that shows the Majesty of Motherhood.

Blest be those who can feel blissfulness in the togetherness of their creation as co-Makers of Eternal Mother.

I enjoyed this "Postponed Ph.D".

Yes you mothers do have to make sacrifices. And some of the dead beat dads like mine just live it up. Enjoyed this

RIGHT ON! Successfully raising two children should qualify anyone for an honorary doctorate (if not sainthood). Best, K.K.

Awesome poem, Victoria. As one Mom who put her life on hold, I know something about the journey of waiting. The poem is filled with wisdom and heart! I'm blessed as always by your writing.

Victoria your writing always touches a little piece of me, and having children of my own, I can relate so well to this one ~ I kind of grew up with my kids (had them young) and now, well now of course we're a big happy family and I'm still growing up (I guess I am the eternal child). Thanks for sharing this, its really lovely. Oh, and I believe that its never to late to follow (chase) your dreams :)

Hi Vickie,
How cute. Kids are cool. Its so nice to know the kids are loved because so many of them aren't. If the cup was filled with motor oil you probably would still drink it. What a beautiful little poem. I liked it alot. I wish you would write more poetry.
