When I was a kid
it was reading, writing,
and arithmetic
Get up, get dressed,
off to school
being taught manners,
and told not to drool
Teaching me this
and learning that
don't eat too much
or you'll turn out to be fat
All the things I was taught
turned out to be true
now it's my turn
to teach them to you
I've turned into my mother
not a bad choice you see
but unlike her
I'm going to teach you
some of the things
she never taught me
We'll start in the basement
that's where the laundry is done
we'll work our way to the kitchen
oh what joy, oh what fun
From morning till night
the excitment don't stop
and in between resting
I'll teach you to shop
We'll hunt for bargins
and items on sale
it's all a part of being
a wife, a mother
can't you tell
What' s that you say
you've changed your mind
you'll return to school
and go for sometime
Ah, a Ph.D.
what a wonderful choice
a mother's dream
I mumbled in a low voice
Darling don't rush life
let it come to you
and someday
you'll be telling your daughter
I've turned into my mother too...
I wrote this poem a long time ago -- in loving memory of my beautiful mother Mary who kept my older sister from making the biggest mistake of her life at the time, smile..
This was a lovely poem Victoria. It's coincidental but I just did one called "Tough Love." Really enjoyed

I also write poetry. Your poem was really great. write back some time to discuss more about your writting and publishing. Thhanks for your beautiful and meaningful poem.
I enjoyed this a great deal. I talked the principal of my daughters school to expel her for a week when she would not stop skipping class's. For that week I give her every dirty job I could find in the house and no out door time. When she went back to school the following week she improved her grades to the degree that at the end of the year she recieved an award for most improved student :-) You might like to check out a poem I wrote called, "Children's Day." I suspect you will enjoy it.
I enjoyed your poem...I thought it was well written with truths. Of course, the same goes for Father's, as well...Funny how things always seem to happen like that, huh?
I think we all shock ourselves when we realize we have become our mothers...(another good reason to be a good one)
