Written with tears and love

Poem Artwork

Sitting inside the clinic all the usual anxieties raise their ugly heads I’m not there with illness but with sadness instead

What right to take that which isn’t yours. Something so intimate and innocent an evil act that you might walk away from but with repurcussions that might annihilate…annihilate strange word, to make nothing? Take away with extreme prejudice because you could without any thought for the innocence that you have so nearly destroyed

You’ve sown hurt and heartache into good soil evil intent sent to wreck ruin and destroy but some people are too good and innocent to spoil to ready to set their minds on the future, not be victimised by past events

I’m trying not to read the poster’s…a woman comes in with a talkative daughter, too talkative, traumatised, actually quite pretty violated like my own otherwise why would she be here. When the girl goes inside Mum and I exchange a few jokey lines; thin ghost smiles on our anxious faces barely covering the hurt that lies not so very deep inside

Quite a few of the Nurses and Counsellor’s are pretty too but I try not to look I’m the enemy within, but probably only within my own head…that depends. They’re mostly decent people I try a whimsical remark on one young woman who stops to take water for her and her friends from the dispenser on my left; it seems to fit and she walks away laughing balancing three filled cups in slender hands

Two more victims turn up (Mum and Daughter) I give up my seat and move to the corner, sympathy mixed with resentment seems to me the cocktail of the day.

I had to come but I hadn’t thought this through; I sit and ponder and wait an interminable age my poor Fathers heart filled with impotent rage: An unholy anger that smoulders inside a bloodthirsty demon that must be denied; or so I’m told by insensitive friends do I take their advice…I suppose that depends.

“Let your gentleness be evident to all” (The Bible/ my take on life).

My goodness, Jeff... this rattles so many of my own bars I feel like I'm playing Rule Britannia on the xylophone!! (Do I qualify as the over-anxious mother or the over-talkative daughter??!) I am perceived to be a fairly well-balanced, strong, resiliant and humourous individual, but oh the dark roots, in spite of my deep faith and received personal healing! And, actually, I can blame nothing more than a fairly weird succession of life events for this state of affairs, none of which have quite been of the dimension of severity you speak of here...

But the pain! Both as victim and mother/wife/daughter/closest friend! Whichever side of the particular fence you find yourself on at the time, the empathy of pain resonates and the up-build of "irrational, disproportionate anger" is seemingly uncontrollable. I feel for you in this.

I will cease rambling but I admire your ability to commit this so clearly to paper. I do hope you feel a catharsis in so doing. And thank you for lifting yet another layer from my own load with this uncovering.

I pray that both your daughter and yourself might enjoy ultimate freedom and cleansing from this deep emotional and physical wounding. My own journey has only just begun, really, through the acknowledgement of pain's existence through the writing out of it. Although the journey may be long, it is effective and sure.

Bless you - and love the honesty in your Biog Notes. Tis refreshing! :)) TY K xx

I'm close to my dad and this poem clearly shows how strong the bond between father and daughter can be. I understand from the words what has happened, a repulsive act. Your honest words express how the emotions churning you up inside can cause so many thoughts to fire through your mind from intense anger to utter sorrow. It also shows how we often typically put a brave face on. Your poem, though horrifying, is also touching because of the love and care shown.

Very few things are more precious than a father/daughter relationship.
When this bond is brutalised by a beast, I, as a father, can barely comprehend the pain you are feeling and the rage fermenting inside against the perpatrator. Nor can I begin to imagine the sudden vulnerability of your precious bond.

'I suppose that depends.'
We're human and endemic of our humanness is, amongst other attributes, anger, a trait that feeds the hunger of vengeance.
It's an incredibly testing menu.

My thoughts are with you and your daughter.

Jeff,
This touched my heart so deeply. I can understand your feelings. I also suffer depression brought on by the effects of others. Jeff, I admire you for getting the help you need. I admire you for standing up and fighting for your very sanity. Keep writing Jeff, because it helps get the anger out. I salute you.

Many Blessings,
~Linda

Jeff,

(((HUGS))) this one hurts. You and I on the same page, kind of--you with depression, me with phobic fear of storms. Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
