A poem about my life before I knew Jesus; existentialism and depression are major themes, as well as signs of searching for an answer.

"But here there is no light"
-John Keats, "Ode to a nightingale"

Disenfranchised-I
epitomize a lost soul
I'm a dead man walking,
my purpose? I don't know...

Although I've never sold
Satan my soul...
I must admit that often I get
quite depressed.

So much that when I see
my own reflection...
in the mirror it only
serves to increase the depression

I've tried many remedies
but none of them work
as I go through my days
always fearing what lurks...

ahead. My spirit is dead.
I can choose to love but instead
my soul is decadent,
my heart despondent I pray in
vain for god to stop it

I stress relentlessly
Every sunday go to church
but still happiness seems
not meant for me.

From where will my help come?
My life I defile! I put on a mask
in front of people, but I'm just
in denial!

Some believe there'e a Light,
but I see only darkness here
all hope I've abandoned ever
since I've entered fear.

1999, B.C.

A very moving and sad poem. I too have been here a time or two, it's a great tool to be able to express one's sorrows through writing poetry.

Really honest poem. I've experienced this many times. It's one of those things where you just throw your hands up in defeat. Well written.
