It was eerie walking through the once lush wooded area, where now all was bare nothing to protect  from the wind and cold air, besides the natural effects of loss from the onset of winter frost, most of it had been destroyed by a summer fire, making the bareness almost  entire

Walking amongst such nakedness I felt overdressed as  sadness overcame me almost like an illness, and I looked for a place to rest, finding a stump of a large oak that had been cut down, I sat and looked around

The emptiness where once it had been teeming with life, birds, animals of all kinds, yet all I saw were a few ants and other bugs, the pest population which seems never to be defeated

Then I heard a sound which could only be that of a wood-pecker, and I smiled with hope, that this now bare, barren bunch of lifeless matter would  again be restored to the beauty it had before, with lush vegetation, and become the habitat for wild life it once was.

It made me think of how the cycle of  life is always being destroyed and redeployed. Everything ever evolving in the never ending circle of  death to birth to death, lifeless to new breath, renewing, reliving redoing ,regiving, nothing ever really ends, isn't that amazing

Having been born and raised in a place where swamps were our playground, I too have walked in the nakedness of what man has done... and still I hold to the hope that one day we will see the mystery and the beauty of the marshland return... A wonderful read, Eileen!

Yes, it is amazing. It can be sad when I dwell on it too much, but it's such a joyous cycle given to us by the creator. Really beautiful, thought provoking poem, Eileen.

The emptiness where once it had been teeming with life, birds, animals of all kinds

I get this very sad feeling more and more on my many wanderings these days in our ever increasing modern concrete, steel, and plastic world. And I truly hope the Great Natural Circle of Life can and will continue.

All things are contstantly changing and evolving - nature looks after itself far better than we do. Clever observations here on continuum - I went somewhere very peaceful with this prose. Love Panda :)

Yes, yes Eileen continuity!
Some people say with every out-breath we die and every in-breath we're reborn! That's why this and every moment is a gift! The beautiful breath celebrates our life; even if we're thinking about anything else but breathing... staying alive.
Oh God is good.... the so called subconscious mind is wide awake: we'd forget to breathe at all if it was up to our conscious mind!
Love, Suzie :-D

Dear Eileen
Your concern for nature and environment is quite evident in here. You have beautifully penned an attention-grabbing peice of prose which goes so smoothly into the inner workings of the mind. GBQ

Ingenious how you used the word "redeployed" when the mind pre-thinks "restored." Really grabs attention and lands lightly on a feather with "isn't that amazing"

You go ahead Girl!
