"Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours."

- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

~~**~~

The sun heralded in the morning
My juices began to flow and sing
I rose up ripe and ready for the day
Prepared to face what came my way
My prayers said, and breakfast done
Now with vim and vigor I'm on the run
I meet and mingle with the populace
I can't help but think we are a good race
The presence of war hanging over us
Doesn't stop us from being industrious
Doing our business sticking to our plan
When work is done a bit of fun if we can
People in general are helpful and kind
Though harmony not always easy to find

What a great nation we live in, still free
Able to speak our minds, and to disagree
Many died in wars to make sure of this
To all of them we owe an appreciative kiss
Though we pray war will come to an end
We must back our military women and men
Let us remember for whom and what we stand
Let us honor our soldiers fighting in other lands
The world is filled with the noise of  negativity
We have to learn to separate truth from falsity
Our Nation uses the phrase "In God We Trust"
Memorial Day is to honor those who died for us!

Ed,
What beautiful words you use to describe this day on our calendars. Through you metaphors, your plea is heard, understood, and responded to. I enjoyed this so much because it says exactly what I had in mind for today.

Regards,
George

Memorial Day is to honor those who died for us

Something I think far too many have forgotten. It now seems to be just another three day weekend holiday. We must truly strive to never forget them.

Memorial Day should be extended to those soldiers that came back without a limb, burned, blind, on a wheelchair or just surviving hell to come back and tell the story.
Not only our dead soldiers are the heros, many of the still living soldiers of our last wars never got a sincere thank, just a ribbon.

A great prayer and reminder of the great sacrifice so many made to keep us free.

Great write in honor of those who took the ultimate risk and sacrificed all in the name of freedom. The photo impacted me as my father lies beneath such a marker. Those who served and rest beneath those markers were hero's in the truest sense. They paid the ultimate price for the freedom we enjoy...the freedom which so many take for granted.
A wonderful sagacious tribute Eileen.
