I awoke glistening with sweat cold, cold, sweat, and I shook I could smell the aroma of fear oozing from my shivering body dripping from my tangled hair in a fetal position I hugged myself unwilling to make a move until I was sure it had been a nightmare and he wasn't there ready to inflict his sadistic mode of punishment it had been a long time since I'd dreamed of my past mate, and the vile cruelty of his hate still permeated my senses,he was a Jeckyll /Hyde, I never knew what he'd do, and you wouldn't believe me if i told you
(knowing I hated bugs,he once tied my hands behind my back and dumped a bunch of ants and spiders over me that he had collected for the purpose of tormenting me and laughed maniacally while I squirmed in misery)
suffice it to say, huddled in bed I'd stay, waiting for my friend whom I phoned afraid to get up alone, for thoughts of past stays in hospital and his part in much of my illness, left deep scars to the degree that a dream could be so real as to leave me in such a state, even though I hadn't seen him in 25 years! My friend and I discussed over coffee, how amazing that memories could have such searing effect, even though I had defeated it long ago,and it was over which shows that sometimes we cover too much in order to hide it,and never give ourselves the chance to air it out,and be free of it.... So I shared it this time...
SOmething I am still living with........wish I had the strenght to do what I need to do

I am sorry you had to endure this pain.
I was physically abused as a child and in my first marriage.
God brought me through it all. Here I stand today writing for
His glory and I am glad you are standing with me.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Wow, what a write...a nightmare for sure! A powerful write full of emotions and wrenching pain...it's hard to understand how a human can be so cruel and wish to inflict such pain and misery upon another human. But what's amazing as well is the amount of strength that a human can muster up after such ordeals as well as courage to keep going...the human spirit is amazing, when we think that our spirit is broken, God has a way sending angels our way in the form of friends who help see us through these trials that life and others sometimes have a way of inflicting upon us...a very touching write, very powerful, very profound, lingers on one's thoughts....
Blessings,
Joyce B.
it is uncanny how long the mind and body remember such pain and torment. so sorry for your having to relive the trauma, Eileen, and so grateful at the same time that you had a true friend there. I have to believe that each time we share some piece of our past, it has the potential to be transformed and made holy, taken from us and replaced in the quiet moments after with a peace that passes understanding. blessings to you, Dawn
Eileen, mercy...if this happened and was not a dream...how in the world did you stand this? I'm frightened to death of spiders. I would have died right there on the spot. The horror of this could never be forgotten and I'm sure it bites your back often. People can be tortuous, evil and heartless!! I'm glad you had friends to tell your problems to or you probably could have never withstood this torture.
This is such a sad poem but in a voice of truth and full of fears.
My gosh sugar chum ... did this really happen? Gave me bloody shivers! Point me towards the cad ... I'll take me sword and lop a head. Outstanding emotion in this one! Richard

Powerful but sad. Post traumatic Stress often rears its ugly head just when we don't expect it.
Eileen I hope you are free of it.
You experienced the worst in human

Eileen, you're amazing. Those with giftings of unflinching faith and love often don't see the need to give sway to their own negative outworkings of feeling and experience. To some extent I can relate, being naturally humorist and of a sunny disposition. But I am so sorry for your tortured pain. And I can wholeheartedly agree... thank God for those friends - perhaps only one or two, in reality - with whom it is right and healing to share these buried and calcified traumas. Those who are strong in spirit often don't really appreciate how our mortal bodies store these kinds of emotional damage, and we can't be truly detoxed of it until it is ACTUALLY released from our systems - supernaturally, or through the grace of the minstrations and involvement of others. Bless you and may you sleep deep and peaceful, relieved of this remembrance. I hope your sharing in this way brings comfort and aid to others similarly anguished. Love, Kate xx
Some memories still cause me to shudder when I have them; they are real as though they had just happened. I've aired mine in the past, but still can't let go as you have. Excellent write..parenthetical part as well.
Oh, this one hurts: but in releasing it, it no longer has control. Glad you're out of that horrid situation. You're right, thank God for friends who pray you through, as you've me...it is I who should be thanking YOU.

It's been ages since I've read a horror story let alone poem. But I'm glad this was a dream and the horror is over. Yes, sharing with a friend is important. Victor.

It is in the sharing and the caring that we lessen the hold they had on us. The moments do get shorter from that waking moment to realization that it was only a memory. And in time the body does release you from it's grip. My soul feels for yours at those moments. And yes, sharing with friends breaks that silence and it's bond. Lady J

Yes, friends are special.
What a dream! Find those triggers and put a big mental red X over them!
You have an eloquent way of writing these things out. It is good catharsis. Meantime, we'll get a rope and hang the bastard.
I hear that! Those memories hide in dusty little corners, dormant and watching. One breath in, one breath out. Salivating for the arrival of the perfect moment to strike. Sharing with someone is the weapon to use. I am sorry you went thru this, I'd kick his coward ass if I knew him!
This is so sad and so cruel. No one should ever be made to endure such treatment. If there is peace in such disarray may it always be with you my friend. Love and Blessings Always, Paul.
Eileen, I admire you for your strength, I pray that those dreams go far away never to return. Take care and know you are loved by so many. Thank you.

Healing is a marvelous thing. A am not one to allow my daughters to suffer, nor is God. Kicking the door down of a malignant trolls often helps as well. So glad you are safe.
What a sadistic man was he. Yes let your fears be aired out, as fear has no hold on you once you expose it to daylight. I will be praying that these dreams will go back to the hell that they came from.
