tears flowing freely, captured
by the wind, as the ocean roar's
a storm is coming and the waves
are churning dead cetacean's ,
ashore. i walk the beach, and see
their  bleached bones as all that's
left of our relationship,that never
had a chance because you dance solo
for fear of anyone getting too near
I spent years keeping our friendship
from failing , but finally I bring it to
an end,i'll just let it die while i mend
my broken heart, and try to keep from
losing sleep over your reaction, which
i'm sure won't cause much dissatisfaction
since you are your own best friend

I would call this a poetic letter and I love the visuals.
Lovely alliterations too, especially those "bleached bones"
on "the beach" that also create a lasting image.

Ewww....coldness and sadness in these lines... not so much from the perspective of the "I" in the poem, but rather from the one who is his own best friend. I know some people like that...but sometimes I see myself in the lines of "...you dance solo for fear of anyone getting too near"... that is a defense mechanism I frequently use because of all of the times when being loyal has ended up hurting me...

sigh...

Sadness, disappointment, and resignation evoke memories of relationships left out to dry in my life as well. Bleached bones, you say. Dr. John Townsend wrote a book (1991) titled: Hiding from Love/How to Change the Withdrawal Patterns that Isolate and Imprison You. When your friend tires of "dancing solo" I hope he (or she)seeks wisdom from a counselor such as Dr. Townsend, if only through reading his books (also co-authored the Boundary books). It might save a lot of grief and pain for him/her and those who care about him (her). This poem speaks to the heart.

Your poetry is very symbolic because the ocean comes in waves, constant, yet pulling back.....you are the shore in this poem, and in sure....your friend is a fickle wave, but I think you will aways have a relationship....just a feeling......:) pax A

sadly provocative ... hopeless lost dreams ... a true friend respects distance for sometimes it is all one can really grasp onto without judement ... isn't everyone their own best friend? i should hope so, if not, your your own best enemy ...

powerful poem, ET ...

Eileen ~ This brought tears, I recently lost a friend who is still here. Life can be strange, my intuition is usually on the mark, however after many years of savoring a relationship with my best friend, it suddenly came to an end, without a reason as to why. I felt a bomb blast in my face and a punch to the stomach, as she turned to hatred. The most pain I have ever felt, to this day.

Thank you for sharing.

Warmth and Love to you, Carin'

How sorrowful. A lost friendship is a terrible thing. If this is not fiction, may you one day bridge that gap that developed between you and your friend.
