- true friendship and oxygen have something in common -
"There are days when
thick layers of dust
cover our worn out hearts".
Oh, I'm so bored,
so disappointed;
not an apocalypse, no,
but surely the slow decay
of real life.
What is it
that finally comes shaking me,
breaking the glass
of an emergency exit,
helping me find the way out
of this congregation
of deadly bootlickers
with their stale jokes?
What is it?
Unaffected, pure friendship
and honest talk
save me from asphyxiation.
I leave them all behind
thanks to you, my friend,
I now watch them from afar,
wallow in chosen suffocation.
To not-so-cleverly appropriate an old and second-hand joke, 'Oxygen, like love, sex, friendship, understanding, and so many other things we overlook and take for granted in our pedestrian lives, is not truly missed until there is no more to be had.' In our competitive rush to burn the Roman candles of our lives at both ends simultaneously, that rare moment of unforced, purely natural, and unaffected gesture of genuineness that infrequently occurs can (and may well) provide more of a lift than Nitrous Oxide! Assuming, of course, that it isn't transmuted by consequent and unforeseen metaphysical alchemy into Ethylene Oxide! I enjoyed the imagery in this very much, but I am finding I likely could say the same about all of your pieces.

I can see the escape of one who travels the monotony of an unwanted journey...some don't have the friendship of of sanity to soothe their walk...that is when we truly cherish....Friendship...
The key to the emergency exit is friendship and friendship is always a two way street so perhaps you are just exchanging keys of enlightenment in each others lifes.
You have one of the best seats in the house. Once we allow ourselves to rise above this problem we end up watching the soul cinema from a better seat. You GO GIRL!

Being reminded of my FAVORITE movie/book ever...Let me recap a scene: In the fire swamp, Princess Buttercup falls into the snow sand. She falls forever before she remembers to flair her fingers, flex her feet and spread her arms out wide to slow the plunge. And then, hero Wesley's hand grabs hers. Snow sand cascades from their shoulders as he climbs, heaving them up and out, hand over hand up the vine/rope. Then, gasping for oxygen, they cough up the sand and recount how their hard times are over. Let the R.O.U.S's fend for themselves in the sand--suffocating to the very death! Horrah for Wesley! Another princess saved--this time it's Axilea's shoulders protruding from the dust. Hand over hand...and let them other dudes fend fer them selves! --Charlie
