In a dimly lit, little room,
colorless,
packed with
acrid smells,
forgotten objects,
anemic habits and faces,
I discovered
that everything looked the same:
distastefully familiar.
Night was falling
on the country road
as I walked,
fighting fluttering feelings,
until, under the red moon
was re-born my adventurous heart
that beat proudly in my chest.
The smalltown station was
grey, quiet, freezing cold
and there I stood,
an observer,
a shadow in a shapeless coat.
I saw three trains.
One was like my life, a dream rushing
to some unknown destination
and, without me.
The second train looked old,
slowing down, drowning
in the fog of resignation.
The third, was empty.
Then, it filled up:
faces,
footsteps,
foreheads against the windows,
but no room for a claustrophobic traveler.
At 10:16pm,
a bright yellow arrow in the night,
it finally left the station.
Oh, was I surprised
to find myself in it,
waving goodbye
to the faded old me.

"waving goodbye
to the faded old me." Bravo for waiting for the right train. We all need to find a train such as that one. I'm at that train stop now in my life.
Sometimes it is tough to get out of that station. But it is important that we do get out. On the brightest light possible.
Great sentiment and observation in this.

Axilea, this is a mirrored image of real life for most people, but in words in such a way as to transport them within their own reality. this is a gem of a write and i have to agree the last stanza is so powerful and reflective that i am truly blessed to be able to relate to your words. thanks.
I love the way you captured your outlook on life, even with your at first casual indifference you still appeared although thinking as an oberver, a player who had the power and fortitude to make her own decisions. Well done Axilea...one of your best.
You are such a genius! This is my favorite of yours yet. It hangs like a thick fog clinging to the insides of my mind--like a memory ghost of things to come--the dejavu forethought. "a bright yellow arrow in the night" is a great metaphor--so visual, so filled with immense motion after a stand-still, lonely shot. Some day, who knows, you'll see three trains, one a rushing dream, one resigned, and one yellow arrow, and you'll say to yourself, "Wow! Feels like I've been here before, only I can't quite put my finger on when..." And when that happens, you'll know. You'll know you got on the right train. --Charlie
I love the metaphors in this poem. I have to say your last stanza really summed it all up
"Oh, was I surprised

Perhaps you are about to enter on a fresh new journey to the second part of your earthly life. Be open, Axilea, to all the wonderous things about to enter your life. You have waited long enough, it is your time for peace, and love and brilliant light.
