The Comet

- I felt like sharing an older poem about a silhouette that could be any woman -

She looks at herself
from a special window in her soul,
she waves.

Dreams are heavier than ever,
collapsing like molecules
ready for an implosion.

And she sees it clearly,
her eyes getting used
to the mist of memory.
She finally beholds
the love that is inside,
the hope that trembles like a flame
in a heart that pounds
for better days that never came.

She sees the woman
she thought she was
and simply watches her
cross the same street,
head for the bus stop.
How many times?

Thousands of days,
- or was it millions? -

Like a comet, losing her tail,
the rain, the sun,
the clouds, the rain.

That same path she took,
day after day,
ashes suffocating the sparkle of youth,
while the men watched her
but only saw the flesh,
her heels, her scarf that slides,
revealing iridescent skin.

Today, she is the one who sees,
- a witness -
of her precious time on earth.

This is nice...the view you express is filled with inner thoughts that find one placing more than reflection...one must try to be the words of your poem to find the essence of its escape...

nicely written poem, Axilea...

Unique imagery leading to a much deeper message. It is a wondrous feeling when you know someone is looking beyond the "flesh". Excellent write~ Sheila

Soliloquey of a lonely women in the rain, could almost be a painting,
'She sees the woman
she thought she was
and simply watches her
cross the same street,' says it all..haunting, an impressive write

Real beauty is not her looks, her clothes or make-up.
The soul, real beauty is only found in the depths of her being, the superficial soon fades, but the inner beauty is for always, it is that which sould be nurtured.

Dittos to all below. Moment of epiphany. I love it. In a way it kind of reminds me of Wessley's (oops,) I mean Leo Durrant's poem "Inside Looking In"-- looking at yourself from your own special window. It creates a lonely, but not a longing atmosphere-- the desire for change, but without the deprecation, only love and deep, ultimate understanding. --Charlie
