Insincere Response to Beauty

Poem Artwork

Dermabrasion;
red raw price
for self-acceptance,
derision the visible part
of deep, deep shame.
Hiding in a hotel room,
struck
by the lightening of profoundly shocking
beauty in her…
“Oh tell me room
that I am invulnerable”
(While) hot as hell,
his face, finally
in the company of Bang and Olufsen,
- not alone! -
surrounded by cold designer walls.
Struck
by the arrow of non epidermic beauty,
too deeply moved by its memory,
- shaken -
he falls
like a bottle of cherry soda,
becomes
a stain on a white, furry carpet,
(while) two thousand and eight bubbles,
- released -
roll, jump, pop
into thin air,
(while) thick blood and ink,
encapsulated in forced communion,
remain
in the stale atmosphere of a glass jail.
Stranded,
he falls
on the bed, how convenient,
(while) he pushed his beloved
on the barbed wire of his jagged conscience.
Ruthless,
his identity so rootless,
just feet barely touching the carpet...
but what can lessen his loss?
Soft lounge music?
And, when it is time to clean
and give back
what is only borrowed,
the taste of fake cherries
and sickening sweetener
haunt the fraud’s mind…
Dishonest
hidden behind leather and steel,
still in the past, when he was invited
and secretly shed a tear
in the room of beauty.
But tonight
- and every night -
he feels like a house of cards,
a trick with no one behind,
lightness bound to a heavy coping mechanism,
with the highest price to pay for
insincere response to beauty.

Interestingly ellusive are thoughts where one can not only find but reflect the idea and or reality of anything that pertains to beauty and the depths of the mind. Beauty can be an illusion when only thought of as externally appealing and yet the inner most beauty is somethimes just a thought within. Then there is the insincere emotion that craves to be a part of and against the inherit commodity.

nicely written piece Axilea...

Often, I don't know how to make my reviews worthy of your work. Something deep within senses your genius, but to deliver my wayward thoughts somehow feels inadequate.

Why can't people just be happy with who they are, instead of trying to look like someone or something else? Excellent write tapping into the physiological and physcological realms of the spectrum...

Be always safe,

I think you strike many chords, especially with us gals, with this rapier write, Axilea. I am convinced that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as it is commonly said, but that also our inner spirit can detect true appreciation even at a distance and thrills to such, illuminating any intrinsic beauty that may already pre-exist. On the other hand, the deadness that accompanies someone faking it makes us shrivel at the touch of his hands. I find this deeply moving and both psychologically and emotionally astute, searingly honest. TY Kate xx

Incredible write, Axilea. In a way, a horror show, the pain,
shame, the vulnerability of losing what is deemed to be one's
beauty, unless I missed something because I'm still working my
way through all of the marvelous metaphors. -gene.

Axilea,

I felt the pain in these lines: well done. No one should be judged on what she SHOULD look like: I know. My neighbor ... God rest her soul. 52 years old and plastic surgery didn't make her look any younger: it earned her a ticket to the grave. So sad.

..moving sad write...to not have self acceptance bleeds within,, though portraying to one a mask of beauty underneath scars of hurt.
well done!

a very powerful write, Axilea. I love your juxtaposition of "ruthless" and "rootless"... I also liked the cherry soda, and the fake cherries, and the paradox of "lightness bound to a heavy coping mechanism". But most of all, again, it's the atmosphere. We're there in the room witnessing his fluffy emotion, willing him to be what he once was--haunted by the former beauty of that "secret tear in the room of Beauty", but alas! it is not to be. And meanwhile, barbed-wired Beauty bleeds...
