As squirrels jabber
At one another
Within their green shelter.

To rose petal
And birds sweep
Through the sky

While I lay, content
Upon my hammock,
Watching as summer plays out

Another glorious day to recall
In the depths of winter
When the chill winds come
With icy ferociousness.

Inside my mind
As I dash through the cold
Counting the days and the weeks
Until the birds
And the bees
And the sultry heat return,
And I can lay in my hammock
Once more.
