If Beethoven had written a sunrise
I would have witnessed it this morning:
A symphony of reds, orange, and deep blue
Exploding across the eastern sky,
The mute fires curling and streaming
From horizon to clouds, and

Was hard to comprehend,
The violence of the colors
Overwhelming,
Until the rising sun
Bleached the drama
To the color of day
And the sounds of life
Awakening
Brought another kind of music
To my eager ears.
