The winter winds howl
Against the west walls
Of our house,
Bringing cold temps back
Atop a warm spring-like day.
As the fronts clash,
Lightening flashes
And thunder cracks,
Rolling ominously
Along the mountain ridges
And echoing
Through the chill rain.
Our dogs are nervous;
Frightened of storms,
They pace, pant, and whine;
One barks
And tries to chase
The intruder away.
For once
I am not exhilarated
By Mother Nature's drama.
I do not know why.
Perhaps it is because
I have become more sensitive
To the traumas
Others have suffered
Since tornadoes ravaged
Our state.
It does not seem right
To exalt when others fear.
My dogs hates thunder too. Which is a problem cause we live in the lighting capital of the world, Central Florida. I can relate to your dilemma. You've expressed it quite well. ~ Sara
Amen, Rebecca, even though weather has its beautiful side, its more terrifying side is what we remember most, because of the damage it causes, the lives it leaves in ruins - you capture it powerfully and vividly; well done.
