Daffodils proclaim Demeter's recovery
From her seasonal bouts of depression.
They stand in bunches
Nodding their hooded heads
Before the winter winds,
Their vivid yellow hue
A sun-like beacon
Through the spitting snow.
Who can resist their puckish way
Of lifting spirits
Just by being?
