Something's been bugging me
For years now,
A poking feeling
In my mind, and
Between my shoulders,
Like someone trying
To get my attention;
At the same time
There is a sense
That my life
Is ill-spent
In meaningless pursuits.
What is this calling
That is driving me slowly
Toward madness?
I am not
A people person
Nor even overly religious,
Yet could it be
That I am being led
To use my talents
For the greater good?
How would I know?
Who could I ask
Without seeming
A total nut case?
A puzzle, to be sure,
Requiring much more thought
And prayer.
If you even think you should do something for the greater good, you should do something for the greater good. It seems to me God has already gotten your attention, and it is not madness you are being driven toward but a new purpose to which at least part of you is resistant. Bless you for your efforts to come to grips and your honest bravery in trying to confront your feelings. Beautiful write.
