The rain falling heavy
Against the skylights
Seems to echo the tears
I am unable to shed.
Sorrow deeply felt
For dreams lost
And self-condemnation
For allowing myself
To believe at all.
I should have known better
Than to hope
A lifetime of teachings
Would be for naught.
But...
Now comes anger
With myself, with him,
For selling out so cheaply.
I am a woman of passion
And heart
Who asks only
That I not be taken
For granted.
Perhaps I asked too much
Of him,
And not enough of myself.
