The first soft days
Of Spring announce
Demeter's growing joy,
Their lengthening light
Followed in quick succession
By dainty snowdrops
Crocus and, of course,
The daffodils.
The earth awakens
From its long sleep,
Shrugging off
The heavy browns and grays
Of Winter
And donning
A lighter, brighter palette
That infuses the soul
With the shimmering warmth
Of hope.
