I slide behind
The wheel of my car,
And as I pull the door closed,
I slide the key
Into the ignition,
Adjust the mirror,
And pop in a CD,
Josh Groban this time,
Before backing out
Into the street.
I don't know
Where I am going,
I want only
To get away,
Away from the stress
Of living
With someone so negative
That my spirit constantly aches
From the onslaught
Of foul energy.
I want to feel the sun
Warm through the windshield,
And through the open windows,
I want to smell
All the scents
Of a hot summer day.
I want to forget,
Just for a while,
That I have nowhere else
To go,
And rejoice instead
In this short burst
Of delicious freedom.
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
