I sit here, alone,

In this darkened room,

My only illumination

The light

Of the full moon

Glowing softly

Through the diamond-paned windows.

My thoughts

Are focused inward,

I’m thinking of you,

Of us,

As I replay that moment

Just this night

When you first said

“I love you.”

I had not realized how badly

I had wanted, needed,

To hear those sweet words

Whispered so passionately

In my ear,

Or how badly I had needed

To whisper them

In return.

It’s taken so long

To reach this point.

Where do we go now?

We’ve both loved

And lost before,

We are hesitant,

Even now,

Of giving completely

Of ourselves,

Afraid, perhaps terrified,

Of making ourselves

Vulnerable again,

But there can be no doubt

That we belong together.

We have waited

All our lives for this love,

Each twist and turn

In our life’s paths

Bringing us straight

Into one another’s arms.

We must trust

That love will continue

To show us the way.
