Poem Artwork

I didn’t feel you leave me

Sometime before dawn,

I only awoke

Much later

To find you gone.

Your pillow was

Cool to my touch

Yet still it retained

Your unique scent

And I pulled it close,

Inhaling your essence

As if it alone

Could recall you

To my side.

Why must our love

Be so clandestine?

Neither of us

Is tied to another.

We are doing nothing

Inherently wrong.

Still, to go public

Would create a firestorm

Of gossip and conjecture,

For someone such as I

Should not have attracted

Someone such as you.

You are Hollywood royalty,

The darling of the tabloids,

While I,

I am neither glamorous

Nor anyone of consequence.

That we ever met

Was pure chance.

That we fell in love,

Nothing short

Of a miracle.

I do not understand

The world in which

You live,

But I treasure your need

To protect me,

So for now

I will be patient

And I will cherish

Whatever stolen hours

We have.
