Little One
Fresh from
Your mother's womb,
You represent all
That is light
In a world prone
To darkness.
As you recover from
Your arduous journey
From a place
Off loving warmth
And maternal safety,
I see you looking about
With blurry,
Blue-tinged eyes,
Nursing noisily upon
One tiny fisted hand
As you take in
Your new surroundings.

Newborns are generally alike. Always hungry and always taking in so much of their surroundings that it becomes unimaginable how quickly they learn. It makes one wonder when that eagerness to learn and openness to everything ends and reality sets in.
