Moonlight rose from
The water,
Bathing them
In an ethereal glow
As they stood
Close,
But untouching,
Aching for skin
Upon skin,
Hearts beating together;
This was forbidden,
The danger real,
Yet they could
No more deny themselves
Than the earth
Could deny the moon.
Neither spoke with words
But their eyes said all
That needed saying;
Who would know,
They each whispered
Inwardly,
Of this indiscretion?
This one night,
Before reality again asserted
Itself,
They faced their
Temptation,
Wanting,
Needing
What no one else
Could give them.
Who would know?
Who could know?
But the moon knew,
And the slumbering beasts knew,
And it would be inevitable
That others would know as well
For there could never be
Just this one night.
Tears glimmered in her eyes
As she raised one soft hand
And touched his face
Before turning
And walking away,
Back into the bleakness
Of her existence.
