"A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside."
Winnie the Pooh
My friends have
Been there when
I needed them most.
Some were beacons of light
At the end of
A long, dark tunnel,
While others
Walked beside me
Holding a torch
To light my way.
They stepped in when
My family stormed out,
They've supported me
When I've stumbled
And flailed in
Deep water,
They've softened
The sucker punches
Life likes to hand out,
They've let me cry
When I needed to cry,
And made me laugh
When I desperately needed
To laugh.
They've forgiven me
My trespasses,
Corrected me when
I've wronged,
And despite my shortcomings,
They've rarely wavered
When I needed them most.
My hope of hopes is
That I am, in the end,
Half the friend to them
That they have been to me.
Your poem shows that you are a very social person with a real need for friends to help you navigate this complicated life we live.
On the contrary, I have very few friends that will drop anything to help me, anymore. I find that with age comes the loss of those very true friends. Instead, I have to hire people. Some of them become friends, but most just take the money and run. I cannot live without them, but I find paying them to do the mundane, a bit disconcerting at times, remembering how I unselfishly gave of myself to anyone who needed a friendly, helping hand.
