Only a dream?

Awakening in sweat in the middle of the night

A dream that has given you such a terrible fright

Visions of horror all imagination it would seem

Memories of strange things best left in the dream


In the darkness alone the blankets pulled tight

A weird sound of breathing yet nothing in sight

From a shadow among shadows a figure appears

It’s strange shape and size cumulating your fears


Now from deep in your bowels way down low

Flows a wave of terror that just seems to grow

When from the thing of evil a claw reaches out

But your throat constricted you can’t even shout


With the loudness of your heart now hurting your ears

The wild pulsing of veins bringing your eyes to tears

While in your heart you pray you are still fast asleep

That your body and soul are not this things to keep.
