Dedication: To a friend who, on medical advice, gave up The Sweet Life for a healthier and family-oriented lifestyle. He's still suffering withdrawal symptoms! You had travelled the rainbow far enough, the fire was burning your gut. Time to slide off the rainbow, to breathe new air; time to stop the hurt. A paltry pot of gold was not the answer, that you knew; it was your curse. Time for blood to vary heart's flagging beat, to run a different course. Time for the dazzling band which blinds to go from strangely streaming eyes; time for a journey deep within, although the fare be a thousand sighs. (c)2002 Patrick Talty

Patrick..The subject matter could easily have been handled with the tone of a "shaking finger".. the depth of your sensitivities and your love of words gave your friends' transition wings rather than chains.. simply lovely. katy.

I liked the last stanza the best. I think the third line of the second stanza could use some work; (blood to very). Read it aloud, think about it.
