And so I asked.......

"Do you want to make love this morning?"
You gave a heavy sigh
I knew that soon, you'd leave me
And I'd be forced to say good-bye

You lay your arm around me
There behind my head

You'll leave again, this morning
Gone for several days
And I'll do the things I always do

I listened to your breathing
Distance, closing near
Heart wrenched in confusion
Holding back the tears

So, as you lay there sleeping
I crept out of our bed
And like most every morning
Sat on the porch instead

I sat there in the morning air
Still stars out, lit the sky
And wondered 'bout reality
A dozen questions..'why?'

Perhaps I've tried, not hard enough
Perhaps, I've tried too hard
I've cut myself, with broken heart
Like glass, with jagged shard

I used to beg attention
But, no more, down on my knees
I'll save that bit for times that you
Allow me there to please

Perhaps, it's not the question
Perhaps, it's only me
Unworthy to be loved beyond
My insecurity

I only know, I'm empty
You'd think that I'd be smarter
But since I'm not a quitter
Perhaps...I'll try a little harder
